Frequently asked questions

Why do I need a referral?

We are a specialist clinic, and our scope is limited to oral surgery. Most dental issues can be deftly managed by your dentist/dental surgeon without needing an oral surgeon. If there is decay, we are not equipped to fix it on the spot. Once we have removed the impacted wisdom tooth causing decay, your dentist will have better access to remove this decay and provide a filling or other treatment.

In certain cases, it might be best to see your GP to determine if a biopsy needs to be performed, which makes your private healthcare journey smoother. If a biopsy is needed, we can generally carry these out the same day we see you. However, if it requires a more intricate procedure, it is in your best interest that we make a second appointment to ensure everything is timely. Pictures of the area of concern are extremely helpful.

Do we accept health insurance?

Yes, if your policy allows for the procedure(s) you require. Most major providers may cover impacted wisdom teeth. The removal of decayed or unrestorable teeth is not covered under most policies. We are affiliated with Southern Cross Health Insurance, and if your specific provider needs information to process your prior approval/pre-approval, we are happy to reach out.

How much will it cost?

Current costs inclusive of GST include (1) consultation ($155-250), (2) intraoral scan ($100), (3) panoramic radiograph ($100), and (4) CBCT ($305). The consultation fee includes the (5) preparation of documentation or correspondence with the referrer. Treatment costs vary based on complexity, and a written estimate will be provided after your first consultation. We deliver value by keeping things lean without sacrificing standards.

What is oral surgery?

Oral surgery is a dental specialty. An oral surgeon is a dental specialist.
